Mark Andre (Composer)
Mark Andre, 1964 studied composition, counterpoint, harmony, analysis, and musical research at the Conservatoire National Supérieure de Musique de Paris (CNSMP), and composition at the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart. His teachers included Claude Ballif, Gérard Grisey and Helmut Lachenmann.
1994 After studying at the École Normale Supérieure, Paris (Ulm), and the Centre d´Études Supérieures de la Renaissance (Tours), he took a DEA (diplôme d´études approfondies) in musicology with a thesis on
“Le compossible musical de l´Ars subtilior.”
1993 - 1996
-Advanced degree in composition with Helmut Lachenmann at the Stuttgart -Musikhochschule on a scholarship from French Foreign Ministry („Großes Kompositionsexamen“)
1996
- Fellowship at Schloss Solitude Academy
- Scholarship from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
- Kranichstein Music Prize for un-fini I and le loin et le profond from the Darmstadt International Holiday Courses in New Music
- Master class with Wolfgang Rihm
- Resident in Germany as fellow of Villa Medici foreign student program
since 1997 Teaches counterpoint and orchestration at the Conservatoire National de Région de Strasbourg and Frankfurt Musikhochschule

-“...22,13... “, a “music theater passion” in three parts written for the Munich Biennale and Mainz City Theater, premièred in Munich on 20 May 2004 (stage director: Georges Delnon); further performances in Munich, Mainz and Paris (Festival d´Automne at the Opéra Bastille)

-Fellowship at DAAD Artist Program in Berlin.

- Orchestral prize from Donaueschingen Festival for “… auf …” III from SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg

- The cycle “…auf…” for large orchestra (2005-7), conceived as a triptych of three pieces capable of being performed and listened to separately although they form a unified whole.
